Manny Pacquiao Next Fight News: Floyd Mayweather Making Excuses to Avoid Facing Pacquiao, Says Freddie Roach

Freddie Roach believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will continue to make excuses to avoid facing Manny Pacquiao in a super fight next year.

Roach said in an interview with The Philippine Star that he is still hoping that Pacquiao and Mayweather will eventually collide in 2015, saying that he wants the fight to happen because he is convinced that his fighter is way better than the unbeaten champion.

"I don't know if it'll ever come off," Roach said of the Mayweather vs Pacquiao super fight, which is expected to break records if it will be finalized. "I hope it does because I know Manny can beat him."

The Hall of Fame trainer pointed out that Mayweather is still making excuses to dodge the Filipino boxing icon, saying that the pound-for-pound king is still unwilling to work with Top Rank Promotions, while also using his television deal with Showtime as another reason to prevent the fight from happening.

"But from what I hear, Mayweather refuses to work with Top Rank and will only fight at the MGM because they pay him to fight there," Roach added. "Mayweather has a great deal with Showtime. Even if Showtime loses on his fights, he ends up making lots of money so I can't see that changing."

But while Roach is already talking about a possible showdown against Mayweather, the 54-year-old trainer said that Pacquiao is focused on his upcoming fight against Chris Algieri on Nov. 22 in Macau, China.

Roach revealed that Pacquiao is already nearing his deadly form, pointing out that the former pound-for-pound king's punches are hurting him in their mitts sessions.

"I get hurt," Roach said of Pacquiao's punches. "I put on the body shield and Manny pounds away. Of course, I get bruised. My hands are banged up after we do the mitts. But that's okay. I want Manny working his combinations. When we're done, Manny walks up to me and say sorry. He says sorry often."

And based on what he is seeing in training camp, Roach believes that Algieri won't last five rounds against Pacquiao, saying that the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion will be too much for the Huntington, New York native on fight night.
