‘Miss World’ 2014 Winner: Who Will Be Crowned As This Year’s ‘Miss World’ Successor?

"Miss World" 2014 Winner - One of the most prestigious and much anticipated pageants of the year, "Miss World" 2014 will be the sixty-fourth edition of the beauty contest. It will be held on Dec. 14, 2014 at ExCel London in London, United Kingdom. Over 100 contestants from all over the world will compete for the crown.

At the "Miss World" 2014 event, reigning winner Megan Young of the Philippines will crown her next successor. On Nov. 25, the "Miss World" finalists gathered for a photo-call in London. The Daily Mail reported that 125 women from all over the world are taking part in the contest to vie for the crown.

Before the "Miss World" 2014 winner will be announced, the finalists have to survive elimination rounds in beach fashion, "Beauty with a Cause" presentations, sports and talent showdowns among others. On Friday, the women participated in a photo-shoot outside the Marriot Hotel overlooking Westminster, also seen in the background is the famous Big Ben.

Besides the "Miss World" 2014 candidates, last year's winner, Megan Young of the Philippines also graced the event. In a report by UInterview.com, Young posted photos of her herself in her pink, two-piece dress on social media site, Facebook.

The "Miss World" pageant started back in London more than six decades ago. The contest was born in a period before feminism went mainstream. But while development has been made since then on many aspects, the beauty pageant was bombarded by several criticisms.

But in a world where gender gap issues are rising and superficial beauty seemed to be significant, the fact can't be denied that these beauty pageants can be damaging to the idea of being a woman. No matter how smart, talented or highly-achieving, the primary goal is to be paraded, judged and admired for the physical attributes and will be criticized if a woman fails to meet the criteria.

Meanwhile, last Sunday, Nov. 23, a "Service of Unity" and a Special Memorial Tribute for Honduras' Maria Jose Alvarado was held. Alvarado, 19, was the "Miss Honduras World" winner and was expected to represent her country for the "Miss World" 2014 pageant. However, she was found murdered along with her sister and then buried in the village of Cablotales.

"Miss Honduras pageant" organizers decided not to replace Alvarado thus, the nation has officially withdrawn from the competition this year.

The "Miss World" 2014 pageant encourages finalists to show off their academic achievements, fitness and community support. Before a winner will emerge, the Irish Examiner said the women will also showcase their talents as well as charitable contributions.

The "Miss World" 2014, among other beauty pageants, aims to celebrate the unique beauty of a woman. It encourages them to be proud of their individuality while celebrating the world's diversity particularly in race and culture. So, who will be crowned as the "Miss World" 2014 winner?
