Syria Airstrikes Against ISIS Leave 95 People Dead And Over A Hundred Injured

On Wednesday, a monitoring group reported that the airstrikes launched by the Syrian government forces against ISIS have killed at least 95 people and 120 were injured on the northern city of Raqqa. According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the death toll is respected to increase since many people were critically injured.

The airstrikes inside Syria late Monday was the first time the government forces had attacked ISIS militants in the region. ABC News reported that a defense official said the attack was a successful start in a new front in the battle against the terrorists.

The Observatory said at least 10 airstrikes were carried out by the Syrian government warplanes in Raqqa, aiming the city's al-Hani Mosque and the public market. According to CNN, the US-led coalition has also launched airstrikes against ISIS in the region since the start of operations in September.

Since the ISIS militants has seized large swaths of land in Syria and Iraq, the US and other ally nations have started launching airstrikes inside Syria against the Islamic State terrorists. As reported by the BBC News, the Pentagon has announced that the US military and its allies are undertaking military action in Syria.

"I can confirm that US military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against ISIL [Islamic State] terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles," Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Admiral John Kirby said. "Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time... We will provide more details later as operationally appropriate."

According to the US Central Command, the coalition launched 10 airstrikes in Syria from Monday to Wednesday striking ISIS targets near the Syrian Kurdish of Kobani. During the Syrian crisis, ISIS has seized military bases from the Syrian regime near the city and in the wider Raqqa province.

The northern city of Raqqa, which was struck by airstrikes launched by the Syrian government forces, is known to be a place where ISIS militants puts training centers, weapons depots and accommodation for fighters.
