Marvel has chosen the British Actor Benedict Cumberbatch to play as their latest superhero "Doctor Strange, Forbes reported.

Beneditch Cumberbatch will portray the title role of Doctor Strange in the upcoming film about a surgeon turned sorcerer.  On Thursday, Marvel Studio's president and producer Kevin Feige declared the news and talked about the actor's acting capabilities.

"Stephen Strange's story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character," the president said.

In an interview at the 2014 British Film Awards, Cumberbatch gave his first comment about the news. "Really excited, you know?" There's a lot of work to be done and I'm just at the beginning so I don't want to talk much about it, but it's a thrilling gig to get," the actor said, according to Comic Book.

The British celebrity has been receiving praises for his performance in the historical thriller film "The Imitation Game." Rumors surfaced that Cumberbatch is considered as a nominee for the Best Actor category in the prestigious Academy Awards.  If the actor wins an Oscar, it would create a positive publicity for upcoming superhero film.

Other than that, Cumberbatch has a huge fan base due to his role as Detective Holmes in the television series "Sherlock." When asked about the attention he is getting, the actor replied that he takes it lightly.

"I think people who know me, and see me enjoying some of the aspects of this attention being paid to me, know I do take it with a sense of humor.  I don't take myself too seriously," Cumberbatch said, according to NJ.

Meanwhile, the story of "Doctor Strange "will revolve around the journey of Stephen Strange. After surviving a car crash, the neurosurgeon desperately looked for a cure to help him recover.  In the midst of his search, Strange met a mysterious sorcerer who trained him to protect the world from evil.
