Huckabee Defends Beyonce Slam: Former Republican Presidential Candidate Explains Controversial Criticisms

Huckabee Defends Beyonce Slam - Former Republican presidential candidate and FOX show host Mike Huckabee has shed some light on his controversial criticisms of Beyonce and Jay-Z, as well as President Obama and his wife Michelle.

He told Martha Raddatz on ABC's This Week this past Sunday that people need to read the full chapter of his upcoming book God, Guns, Gritz and Gravy in order to get the full context of his criticisms.

"Beyonce is a wonderful talent," he said."My point is, she doesn't have to do some of the things that she does in the lyrics because it's not necessary. She has nothing to make up for. She's an amazing talent."

In his book, Huckabee criticized Beyonce for her music, which he described as "obnoxious and toxic mental poison." He further accuses her of failing to be a good role model for young girls. On Jay-Z, he questions whether the admittedly "shrewd businessmen" is aware of the fact that he is "arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?"

"My point was, even speaking about the Obamas, and I said about them in the book, they're great parents," Huckabee said."But it was President Obama who said in an interview with Glamour who said that some of the lyrics, he won't listen to with his daughter because it embarrasses him."

Huckabee was referring to an interview between Glamour magazine's Cindi Leive and the president in 2012 when President Obama admitted that he does not control what his teenage daughter listens to and that although he shares similar tastes in Hip Hop music with her, he cannot listen to these songs with his children because he would feel embarrassed.

"Well, here's my point, if it embarrasses you then why would you possibly think it's wholesome for your children to put in their heads?" Huckabee said, adding that the Obamas must be as concerned as they are about what type of music their kids listen to as they are about the kind of food they eat.

There have been many speculations that Huckabee, who ran in the 2008 Republican presidential primaries against John McCain and lost, will once again run for president. On Sunday, Huckabee, 59, said he will make an announcement about his presidential aspirations in spring.

Mike Huckabee's God, Guns, Gritz and Gravy is set to be released on Tuesday, Jan 20.
