Atlanta Fake Crowd Noise: Falcons Under Investigation For Using Faux Crowd Noise At The Georgia Dome

Atlanta Fake Crowd Noise - The NFL is investigating the Atlanta Falcons over the use of faux crowd noise at the team's stadium in the Georgia Dome.

Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution over the weekend that the team was informed during the season about the ongoing investigation. "We've cooperated fully with them and we're awaiting the outcome," he said.

The accusation that the Falcons are using fake crowd noise at the Georgia Dome to boost their home advantage was first raised by ESPN. Reports indicate that the tactic, which originated from the team's game operation department, is meant to distract opposing teams when they are in possession of the ball and make it difficult for them to make a call.

If these allegations are true, they could see the Falcons fined heavily and forced to forfeit a draft pick.

Since the news of the Atlanta fake crowd noise was reported, many critics have weighed in on the issue. While there have been many similar accusations against other teams in the past, there hasn't really been an occasion when one was found guilty.

Many critics have therefore questioned the plausibility of the accusations. According to them, in the past two seasons, when the Falcons are alleged to have been using fake crowd noise to boost their game, they have not performed particularly well at the Georgia Dome.

Although the NFL has relaxed its rule on noise in stadiums - permitting teams to incite fans to make noise while an opposing team is making a play - teams aren't allowed to use artificial sound during games.

If it does happen that the Falcons are found guilty of using fake crowd noise to hamper other teams, it will come as a big blow to the team's new head coach Dan Quinn, who is expected to be officially unveiled in his new position on Tuesday.
