Florida Robbery Suspect Leaves Wallet: Florida Store Thief Arrested After Leaving His Wallet At The Crime Scene

Florida Robbery Suspect Leaves Wallet - Authorities in Merritt Island have arrested a man who left his wallet at a Cape Canaveral convenience store where he robbed.

According to reports, the incident happened on Tuesday at the Circle K convenience store located at 7700 N. Atlantic Ave. The suspect, 25-year-old Benjamin Alexander Shaw, entered the store and demanded that the clerk give $40.

Reports from Brevard County Sheriff's Office indicate that Shaw threatened the clerk to give him the money or he would go and return with a gun.

Local reports say Shaw placed his wallet on the counter while demanding that the clerk complies with his wishes. He eventually left the store after the clerk gave him the $40 dollars he requested.

The whole incident was captured by the store's surveillance cameras.

Police were soon called to the scene, were the clerk gave them Shaw's black wallet which contained an ID card with his details on it.

Authorities mounted a search which included a helicopter and trained dogs.

Shaw was found just a few blocks away from the store. Investigators said at the time of his arrest, the suspect had a small glass pipe which had cocaine residue in it.

"You really don't see this very often, but thankfully the clerk thought ahead and was able to find a way to identify the suspect," Dave Jacobs of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Reports indicate that Alexander was sent to the Brevard County Jail after being charged with robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia.

It's unclear if he has an attorney.

The news of Shaw's botched robbery has since gone viral, with many commenting on the fact that he must have been stoned hence the stupid idea.
