League of Legends vs. Parents: LoL Issues Open Letter to Gamers' Parents, 'Don't Enforce Behavior That Involves Disregarding Other People'

"League of Legends" player issued an open letter to the parents of the gamers discouraging the act of neglecting other people in the game, according to Game Informer.

The forum is entitled "Open Letter to Parents of League of Legends Players."  It tackled the issue wherein parents dismissed their kids in the middle of playing "League of Legends." Most parents gave disciplinary actions to their kids such as turning off the game since it is already bedtime or shutting down the computer since the child played too much for the day.

Although the parents' move is reasonable, other players who are in the game will also suffer the consequences. The letter reminded the parents that the child is playing with other human beings, Kotaku reported.

In addition, it stated that teaching kids to be responsible with their time is a good thing but parents should also make them learn to fulfill their responsibilities to others.  It also explained that leaving the game will affect nine other players unless the kid is playing a "custom game." A question followed asking parents if they want their children to be "callous" in personal situations with other people as well, iDigital Times reported.

The open letter also provided the parents practical guides in imposing disciplinary actions to their children who plays "League of Legends." Thirty minutes to one hour is the duration of an average game. The players commit their time to the whole team when the game starts.

A practical example stated in the letter is not allowing the child to play a new game if there is less than an hour left before bedtime or any family activity. If the bedtime is at 10 PM and it is already 9:30, it is best not to permit the child to start a "League of Legends" game.

The letter also suggested that parents should not interrupt the child in playing the game except for emergency reasons. If a parent just wants to check the email while the child is engrossed in the game, it is better to wait than disrupt him. The disruption can affect the child's teammates, which could make them "upset."

At the last part, the letter answered possible questions of parents about the child taking advantage when they follow the suggestions given. It indicated that parents should still let the kid finish the game but they can ground their child after since they are still the ones in authority. Grounding would mean that the kid cannot play "League of Legends" until he learns to be responsible.

As one of the basis for the open letter in "League of Legends," there is another forum wherein players discussed the effects of leaving in the middle of the game.
