Mardi Gras Shooting: 19-Year-Old Faces Murder Charges For Mardi Gras Shooting Which Left 1 Person Dead And Another Critically Injured

Mardi Gras Shooting - Police in New Orleans say a man has been killed and another critically injured during a Mardi Gras parade shooting.

According to police spokesman Frank Robertson, the incident happened around 10 p.m. on Thursday during the Krewe of Muses parade in the 1300 block of St. Charles Ave. There was an altercation and a person reportedly brought out a gun and shot two males.

Although officials have not released the names if the victims, one is said to have suffered gunshot wounds to the chest while the other got struck in the neck.

Reports indicate that both victims were transported to a local hospital, where the one with chest wounds died during surgery. The victim was 21-year-old. The other victim, who is 22-year-old, remains listed in critical condition early Friday.

Local reports reveal that the fatal incident happened during the Muses parade, which is the traditional curtain raiser to the Carnival weekend.

Sources say the shooting did not stop the parade, officials only set up barriers preventing people from tampering with the crime scene and the party went on.

According to police reports, a suspect has been apprehended and is being questioned. Officials who arrived at the scene cleared the area and recovered a weapon nearby.

19-year-old John Kicks, of 4200 block Miro Street has been arrested for the Mardi Gras shooting after leading officers on a chase that ended on the 1700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The Landry-Walker High School student admitted to the Mardi Gras shooting. Detectives performed a gunshot residue test on Hicks, it came back with a "presumptive positive result."

He faces two counts of second-degree murder charges along with charges of using a firearm during a crime of violence on a parade route.

Hicks has since been booked into the Orleans Parish Prison, his bond is set at $1 million.

New Orleans will be hosting several parades every day until Tuesday, which is Mardi Gras.
