Chevy Chase: Could The Former 'Saturday Night Live' Cast Member Be Sick?

Chevy Chase - Distressed fans have reacted on social media after seeing Chevy Chase looking out-of-shape and unhealthy at NBC's red carpet event for the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Live.

Chevy Chase was sweating profusely and garbled his responses during a short interview with Carson Daly.

Chase, who was renowned for his good looks when he appeared in the early episodes of Saturday Night Live, has put on a lot of weight. And judging from the way he was sweating after passing through the "gauntlet" of reporters on the red carpet, it is clear that Chase has not been exercising much.

Chase, who is now 71, appeared on Saturday Night Live in his younger years. But he left the show after just one year and moved to Los Angeles where he pursued his acting career.

Despite leaving the show in 1976, Chase continued to make frequent appearances on Saturday Night Live.

While Chase has enjoyed a successful acting career in Hollywood - appearing in movies like Foul Play and Memoirs of an Invisible Man - he has repeated the fact that he regrets leaving Saturday Night Live.

"I left after the first year because I thought this isn't going anywhere," he told Daly on the SNL 40 red carpet."I liked [hosting the show]. I liked it. But I missed it more for not being a part of the cast because I left after one year, I had reasons to leave."

Last month, when Chevy Chase appeared on The Today Show, he also noted that he would not have left Saturday Night Live if he knew that it would last for 40 years.

"It was so silly of me," Chase said."I think I might have believed it [would last] because every audience is different, every generation is different over all of these years."

Chase is known to have battled chronic back pain related to an injury he sustained while performing a stunt on Saturday Night Live. He also has a history of drug abuse.
