Chevy Impala: GM Recalls About 1,200 2014 Chevy Impalas Due To Brake Problems

Chevy Impala - General Motors (GM) is recalling about 1,200 model year 2014 Chevrolet Impala cars after identifying a problem with the brake pads, which can fail to release from the rotors even when a driver is not touching the brake pedal.

Reports indicate that the Chevy Impala recall is an extension of an earlier recall which began last year after a customer complained that the brakes kept stopping abruptly on the road as if he had applied it.

The September 2014 recall came after a federal investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and GM. About 133,000 model years 2013-2015 Cadillac XTS and 2014-2015 Chevy Impala cars were affected during that recall.

According to Car Complaints, the new Chevy Impala recalls was inspired by a problem with an electronic brake piston actuation arm that doesn't retract fully even after a driver take his foot off the brake pedal.

Reports also indicate that the likelihood of a fire created by the brake pads is greatly increased when brake pads stay in contact with the rotors.

No accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of the Chevy Impala brake problems.

Although GM has not revealed when the recall would begin, the company said it would included all Chevy Impalas manufactured between November 15, 2012, to May 27,2014.

The U.S. automaker says the problem could be repaired by installing a new software and reprogramming the electronic parking brake control module.

GM has also asked 2014 Chevy Impala owners who may have questions to call Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020. Affected customers can also go to www.safecar.gov or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
