Fossilized Dinosaur Eggs Discovered In China Again?! Rare Fossils Unearth In Sewage Systems? [PHOTOS]

Another group of fossilized dinosaur eggs are once again discovered in China. According to the reports, the rare discovery was unearthed in the southeastern city of Heyuan by Chinese road workers upgrading the nation's sewage system.

On Sunday, a total of 43 fossilized dinosaur eggs have been discovered on a construction site in China's Heyuan City. Shanghaiist revealed that the fossils were found deep in the ground outside a hotel, where construction workers were digging to lay a sewage pipe on the major road.

The 43 fossilized dinosaur eggs discovered in China were stuck into 14 fossils. And 19 of the egg fossils were still intact. One egg was even measured 13 centimeters, which is comparable to the size of a melon.

Other measurements range from 10 to 12 centimeters in diameter and have been well preserved by the red sandstone beds in the area. One worker even tried to steal two of the rare fossils but was intercepted, Cubic Lane reported.

In order to protect the site, passers-by formed a human chain until the authorities came and the artifacts were taken away for examination.

Meanwhile, the experts from the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum, which prides itself on having the largest fossilized dinosaur eggs collection in the world, are currently studying the giant fossils to determine the type, as per People's Daily Online.

"There are fossilized dinosaur eggs everywhere in the red sandstone layer but they were never found because the city was built on top of the layers," head curator Du Yanli said, as Daily Mail quoted. "With the recent road and sewage system upgrade, the red sandstone layer is being exposed and has led to the discovery of the fossils."

Since the first discovery in 1996, the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum revealed that over 17,000 fossilized dinosaur eggs have already been discovered in China. That's why, it's not anymore surprising to find such findings in the country.

The rare fossils were found on April 19, 2015 in Heyuan, south China's Guangdong Province, which has been dubbed as the nation's "home of dinosaurs." According to ECNS.cn, the city also earned a Guinness Book of World Records after unearthing 10,008 dinosaur eggs fossils in 2005.

Aside from the fossilized eggs discovered in China, bones and footprints have also been previously discovered. Temporarily, work has been halted as a 1.3 square kilometer dinosaur fossil and geological protected zone is set up in the area for further scientific research.
