Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg Joins SurveyMonkey As One Of Its Board Members

Facebook Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg, a former Google executive and a Harvard Business School graduate, has joined her late husband's company, SurveyMonkey, as one of its board members.

Dave Goldberg, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg's late husband, is the former CEO of the aforementioned online polling company for six years, growing the startup to a $2 billion valuation. Goldberg, 47 unexpectedly passed away last May at the age of 47 while he was on vacation in Mexico, CNET has learned.

"Ever since Dave joined SurveyMonkey six years ago, I watched him and his team execute on their mission to help people make better decisions," the Facebook COO wrote in a statement issued on Monday. "I'm looking forward to working with the board and this amazing team and help to realize Dave's vision of building a lasting company that will impact the way we all do business for years to come."

Dave Goldberg and 45-year-old Sandberg started dating in 2002. Two years after, the couple decided to tie the knot. While both had busy and flourishing professions, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg talked about how they shared household responsibilities. She added their partnership was key to her successful career today.

Goldberg had a long and varied career, which started with companies like Capitol Records and Yahoo! before he eventually became the SurveyMonkey chief.

Aside from Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, another Facebook executive will also be sitting as one of SurveyMonkey's board. According to Reuters, David Ebersman, the former chief financial officer of Facebook, who walked with the social media company through its initial public offering from 2012 to 2014 and also the CEO of behavioral health company Lyra Health, will be joining the online polling company as well.

In addition, Hewlett-Packard executive Bill Veghte will also join SurveyMonkey. On Tuesday, Veghte was appointed as the company's next CEO, which will take effect on Aug. 3.

"We believe Bill's stellar track record in both consumer and enterprise markets makes him the ideal candidate to succeed Dave Goldberg," SurveyMonkey said in a statement. "Bill will continue to deliver on SurveyMonkey's expansion from a survey tool to an insights platform."

Now, SurveyMonkey has a total of seven board members. Its temporary executive chairman Zander Lurie has been named the permanent head of the board. CNN reported Lurie will continue his role as the vice president of GoPro's entertainment division, a position he took up last November.
