OnePlus 2 Launch, Specs & Design: New Photos of Flagship Handset Emerge Before VR Launch Event

Hours before the scheduled virtual reality launch of the OnePlus 2, someone was able to get his or her hands on OnePlus's latest flagship smartphone.

The user even posted photos of the device to show off its overall design.

Based on the images, which was posted by user chinaleakking on Android Central's forum page, the OnePlus 2 appears a bit similar to its predecessor except for a few significant changes.

Like the OnePlus One, the new device sports the same sandstone black finish on its rear cover. But, the Chinese tech firm incorporated new design elements to the OnePlus 2 such as the metal frame around the edges of the device.

Also, the company has lowered the camera panel of the OnePlus 2. In the previous model, the rear camera is located at the top-most portion of the device. For the OnePlus 2, on the other hand, OnePlus lowered the 13-megapixel snapper a bit to provide a few centimeters of space between the top edge and the camera panel.

In addition, the fingerprint scanner of the OnePlus 2 is located on the space below the device's display. Based on the images, it seems this security feature has been integrated into the device's physical home button.

According to GSM Arena, the images posted by the leaker are authentic since these look similar to the ones spotted on the website of TENAA, China's certification agency that is similar to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.

As for the device's other specs, OnePlus confirmed that the OnePlus 2 is powered by the improved version 2.1 Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm and has 4GB of RAM, The Verge reported.

The device's TENAA certification revealed that like its predecessor, the OnePlus 2 also features a 5.5-inch display.

OnePlus will formally launch its newest flagship smartphone through a special virtual reality event. Those who wish to view and participate in the event may do so through the company's own virtual reality headsets named as the OnePlus Cardboards.
