Methamphetamine Lab Found In Taco Bell Iowa? Fast Food Chain Allegedly Manufactures Meth Drugs

The authorities were shocked to discover remnants of a methamphetamine lab inside a Taco Bell branch in Iowa, Tuesday. According to the Cedar Rapids police, they received calls of a suspicious person outside the fast food restaurant early Tuesday morning.

At around 4:42 a.m. (5:42 a.m. ET) on Aug. 4, the authorities arrested two men after they found signs of methamphetamine manufacturing in the utility area inside a Taco Bell chain in Iowa. The officers, who responded to the calls, arrested the two men, including a Taco Bell employee. NBC News reported it was the manager of the fast food chain who let the police into the closed restaurant where they found the suspicious items.

In the methamphetamine lab controversy in Taco Bell Iowa, the two men were identified as 31-year-old Christopher Adam Matous and 56-year-old Kent Jerome Duby. According to The Guardian, they were arrested by the Cedar Rapids police and charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. Matous, on the other hand, also faced several chemical possession charges.   

Even though it was not directly identified who between the two men was a Taco Bell employee, the company has announced that the employee has been fired.

"We understand that two people, one an employee, entered our franchisee's restaurant illegally, allegedly possessing suspicious items," Taco Bell said in a statement. "Both we and our franchisee find this completely unacceptable."

Taco Bell, the popular takeaway food chain also said that the franchisee was cooperating with the police investigation regarding the methamphetamine lab inside the Taco Bell branch in Iowa and added that the restaurant will be sanitized before it reopens, Sky News has learned.

"Our franchisee has been cooperating with Cedar Rapids Police to investigate this isolated incident," the company added. "Although the suspicious items found in the restaurant were not used in the kitchen, the employee has been terminated and our franchisee is considering pressing criminal charges. The restaurant will reopen after it has been sanitized and inspected by the Health Department."
