‘Doctor Strange’ Movie SPOILERS: Marvel’s Dark And Psychedelic Film Depicts Benedict Cumberbatch’s Journey Across Multiple Dimensions

Benedict Cumberbatch's "Doctor Strange" is currently making some buzz since it could be "Marvel's Fantasia" as the comic-book original superhero movie takes Marvel fans to a journey across multiple dimensions. Known for its dark and psychedelic influences, Cumberbatch's upcoming flick will definitely leave its audience in awe.

According to "Doctor Strange" cinematographer Ben Davis, his vision for the movie was inspired by artist and illusionist MC Escher. Though he incorporated some dark and mind-altering effects, he revealed that it would not just be the typical dark movie instead it will be different, The Guardian has learned.

"DPs [directors of photography] always love the word 'dark'. The trouble is that most producers don't like dark," Davis said while speaking at a Bafta masterclass. "I described it as Marvel's Fantasia because it's so out there and different to everything else that they've done."

"It's all very out there," Davis added. "I can't really say much more about it, I'm afraid. But I think it'll be really interesting, and it's a very dark movie, I'm pleased to say."

Davis is no stranger to the Marvel realm. In fact, his previous work with the company includes the box-office hits "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Avengers" sequel "Age of Ultron." Aside from his Marvel works, he has also non-Marvel credits in "Seven Psychopaths" and "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel."

Currently, very little information is known about the storyline of "Doctor Strange," which is part of the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, IGN noted. As per Digital Trends, Dr. Stephen Strange aka Sorcerer Supreme, who was created by prolific writer-artist Steve Ditko, made his first appearance in Marvel Comics' "Strange Tales" series in 1963.

Just like his comic book counterpart, Cumberbatch's character is an excellent neurosurgeon who turns to magic to heal his hands after a car accident ended his career. Since he is extraordinarily skilled with the occult arts, he eventually became the "Sorcerer Supreme," who will be humanity's defender against supernatural threats from different dimensions.

Aside from Benedict Cumberbatch, the cast of "Doctor Strange" also includes Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton aka The Ancient One, while Oscar-nominated "12 Years a Slave" actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and "Sherlock Holmes" star Rachel McAdams are both rumored for unspecified roles. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters Nov. 4, 2016.
