The good reviews, marketing ads and promotions apparently did not work for "American Ultra" as it reportedly flopped the U.S. box office over the weekend. This leads many fans to question whether Kristen Stewart will just go back in making short films, especially now that she was tapped to play the role of Coco Chanel?
Stewart and co-star Jesse Eisenberg's film reportedly grossed at $5.5 million, and according to report of Entertainment Weekly, it was lower than expected. Max Landis, who penned the screenplay of "American Ultra," wondered if this was a sign of death of original films.
The other major films released the other weekend were "Sinister 2" and "Hitman: Agent 47," both got a lower review than Stewart's new movie, but it turned out that they debut higher at the box office.
Landis expressed his confusion and concerns over his Twitter account. And while he was ranting about the unexpected results, no word has been reported from the stars yet.
Rather, what surfaced and trended on the Internet was Stewart — who reportedly responded to Miley Cyrus' "K Stew is hot" comment on Instagram saying she was accomplished — being tapped by Karl Lagerfeld to play the famous fashion icon in a short film.
Stewart, who is the face of Chanel for its 2015 Spring/Summer eyewear campaign, landed the role as the young Coco. The middle age version of Coco Chanel will be played by Geraldine Chaplin, Hollywood Life reported.
In 2013, Keira Knightley played the famous fashion icon in a short film entitled "Once Upon A Time." The difference of her character back then and Stewart's character now is the personality.
Knightley's Chanel was straight forward and sweet, according to Vanity Fair, while Stewart's very very mean. The director said she was really good at being evil, and she played it too well.
Truth be said, Stewart is one of the Hollywood's A-listers, and it's still her choice on what kind of film projects will she accept. In terms of acting, many have said that whether she does Indie, short or big-budget films, it really doesn't matter because her skills and versatility as an actress will still emerge.
The short film will premiere on Dec. 1 at Lagerfeld's Métiers d'Arts show in Rome.
