How Being Attractive Creates More Opportunities In The Workplace

There is a payoff to looking good. Everyone knows that. People invest countless hours and billions of cash on cosmetics, grooming and even plastic surgery. Given all that, what is it for? Does it make any difference becoming pretty?

The Business Insider quoted Daniel Hamermesh, the author of the book, "Beauty Pays: Why Attractive People Are More Successful," and professor in economics at the University of Texas at Austin that, "Attractive people earn an average of 3 or 4 percent more than people with below-average looks."

Indeed more people are now looking at the outside appearance to see the capability of one person. Here are the reasons why attractive people earn more:

1. Good-looking people have more chances of landing a job since interviewers rate a good-looking aspirant more preferably. This is true even to those jobs or tasks that do not require direct contact with the public.

2. Attractive workers are more confident. The looks supplement their personalities and they believe more in themselves. They are better in communication and their interaction with other people also improves their productivity.

4. Once hired, attractive people earn above average. Chron shared what Forbes magazine has stated thattaller guys receive 6 percent premium compare to their average peers. 5ft 7inches tall women also earn $5,250 more per year than those that are 5 inches shorter. Those that are shorter earn 4% lesser in salary compared to those with average height. Obese women also suffer a 5% loss in their wages. General unattractiveness brings wage loss of about 7 to 9 percent.

Indeed good-looking people will not have any problem reaching their financial goals in life. But as to people who do not fit in the standard most people have of beauty, there's no reason to feel bad about it. Just be confident in who you are and learn how to believe in yourself that you are beautiful in your own unique way. Just like what Business Insider has said, "People cannot believe in you if you do not believe in yourself."
