Looks like "Sinister Six" is giving a sinister look at naysayers now. The "Spider-Man" spinoff that somehow got lost after Sony let go of the "Spider-Man" franchise may now be breathing new hope again. Netflix's "Daredevil" creator Drew Goddard opened up this week about his botched Sony project.
Speaking to io9, Goddard revealed that "Sinister Six" was supposed to be a summer annual and that it was supposed to be something that would give fans full action per movie without really thinking of continuity.
"It was just, 'We take Peter, put him on an adventure, we put him back in his life.' I intentionally wanted a movie that didn't have to worry about mythology and continuity," Goddard said.
It can be noted that in the wake of the Sony hack last year, leaked info about the semi-scrapped film revealed that it would star Dane DeHaan, Chris Cooper and Paul Giamatti. Rhys Ifans, Jamie Foxx and Andrew Garfield were also linked to the project, as per IMDb.
"Sinister Six" — supposed to be slated for a Nov. 11, 2016 release — was also expected to feature Doctor Octopus, The Vulture, Mysterio, The Lizard, Electro and Kraven the Hunter. Comicbook noted, however, that one of the six characters was supposed to be replaced by Sandman.
However, with Spider-Man being officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the movie was pushed back and it became unheard of ever since. The move is also to give way to Marvel's very own Spider-Man movie which is expected to hit theaters in 2017.
Nonetheless, Goddard still has high hopes for "Sinister Six." He said, "The tricky part about all this is I love this plan. I love that you get to see Spider-Man in Marvel movies. I think that's a great thing. I'm on board with that decision because as a fan that's what I want. So who knows what the future holds? This is Hollywood, man, you've gotta play the long game."
Finally, according to SlashFilm, Goddard has expressed that there is hope for "Sinister Six" as long as Marvel and Sony are up for it to happen.
