NBA News & Updates: Los Angeles Lakers Outlasted By The Utah Jazz In Overtime Thriller; Kobe Bryant And Six Other Lakers Finish In Double Figures

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Utah Jazz just had one of the most exciting pre-season games ever, as the Jazz won the game against the Lakers in the overtime with the final score of 117-114.

As reported by Bleacher Report, it appears that no one told both teams that this was just a pre-season game, as the Jazz and the Lakers both gave their all in the game.

But no matter how close the game was, it was the Jazz who managed to outlast the Lakers when Rodney Hood hit both free throws with 4.7 seconds left.

Newest Lakers addition Lou Williams led the team in scoring as the reigning 6th Man of the Year scored 20 points, on 4-of-13 shooting. Meanwhile, Roy Hibbert, led the rebounds as he tallied 16 points and 11 boards.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers showed their potential is this particular game; however, much work is still needed to declare this a playoff team.

In other news, franchise star Kobe Bryant also managed to make his return after months of nursing a shoulder injury. But as a precaution, head coach Byron Scott just played Bryant for the first period, in which he scored five points while missing four of five shots.

In a related report by NBC Sports, Bryant spoke to the media and addressed the comparison being made to Michael Jordan regarding their age. The five-time champion said, "This is uncharted territory, my 37 (years old) isn't MJ's 37 (when he returned after taking two seasons off to play for the Washington Wizards), you know what I mean?"

He further added, "Nor is it the same team or the same system that he was playing in. It's much, much different. There's really no barometer, no (precedent) for training physically, for recovery. It's uncharted territory."

As for the team's young prospects, Jordan Clarkson, D'Angelo Russel and Julius Randle were reported to have struggled during the game. However, Russell showed his gift in passing the ball as he finished with three assists but also got two turnovers.

Randle, who was reported to have worked out to reshape his body, missed eight out of 10 shots but still managed to get seven points and seven rebounds.

The Lakers' next game will be on Oct. 8 against the Toronto Raptors.
