"Scandal" Season 5 has already aired it's winter finale entitled, "Baby It's Cold Outside," and now officially on break. The last episode drew mixed reactions from the viewers because of the controversial moments, especially the realistic abortion scene.
"Scandal" Season 5 Episode 9 was emotional since Olivia finally decided to end her relationship with President Fitzgerald and went on to leave the White House. In addition, she aborted her child with the President who is clueless that Liv is pregnant.
Apparently, her actions were due to the mounting pressures that come with being the nation's First Lady. She can't handle everything anymore thus she made the bold decision to get rid of Fitz's baby in her womb and leave the presidential home.
But now that this was how season 5 has ended, viewers are left hanging with a lot of questions which only the next installment can provide answers for. Firstly, how would Fitz react once he discovers Liv's abortion or would it remain a secret forever? Secondly, will there be a second chance for Fitz and Olivia? Will Liv continue to support Mellie since she already helped her out with the filibuster?
There are just many questions but it is still too early or almost impossible to figure out what will befall the characters. But while we can't guess what will happen next, the show's lead star Tony Goldwyn shared some insights about the potential progress of the story for the next season.
On his interview with Hollywood Reporter, he revealed that the abortion twist was a big shock even to the cast members. They never expected the writers to turn the story that dark. The actor said that at the time, they read the script, all he could say was — "What just happened?" But despite that, Goldwyn relayed that he did not questioned Shonda Rhimes but instead, just absorb the story and think about it.
Will Fitz find out about the abortion? How will he take it?
The Divergent Series star theorizes that the abortion will have a strong impact on Fitz since he is also a pro-lifer who lost a son as well. He said that he doesn't know how the president will recover but a sure thing is that he will forgive his First lady due to "his irrational love for Olivia."
How about reconciliation, can the audience expect the two leads to get back together after the tumultuous season 5 conclusion?
"I think there's hope. I think Fitz and Olivia really love each other. I may be alone at this point in thinking that, I don't know. But I do, and I think when people love each other as these two people do, I think they can come back from anything."
He added, "I can't imagine how Fitz will react when he finds out about the abortion. But his feelings for Olivia defy logic."
"Scandal" Season 5 is returning on Feb. 11, 2016 on ABC, and by then, we can finally see what will become of the characters and the story.
