5 of the Greatest Career Advices No One Tells You

Dream big? Never give up? Haven't we all heard those tips at some point in our lives? Add a bit of 'follow your heart' and we get even more confused.

How about 'quit your job and travel'? Don't you think that's one of the worst advices your friends could ever give?

One of the problems about people who are still on the process of achieving a sense of satisfaction with their careers is that they can easily be persuaded to do something that they shouldn't do. How about we check out 5 of the most honest advices that no one actually wants to blatantly tell us?

1. The best job for you isn't always going to be available even if you feel that you are most ready for it. It can be a bit hard when you're too passionate and so in love with your dream career because you forget that not everytime is everything in one's favor. Patience and openness are two of the main keys. In an article by Buzzfeed on career, blogger and career coach John Fawkes said that you have to be open to and searching for opportunity all the time.

2. To prove your importance, never hesitate to ask your boss about their problems and do your absolute best to make those problems go away. In order to be recognized, we must always put our best foot forward. Concern is a big word especially to our bosses who are always under a great deal of pressure. Lifting their spirits up will most likely give peace to ours as well.

3. As much as possible, avoid creating feuds with anyone in the work place. Having an 'enemy', no matter the size of the office, is a manifesto of bad vibrations. It would all go downhill from there.

4. Most of your work relationships are going to change once you get that promotion that everybody wants for themselves as well. At times, it will feel uncomfortable being around people who see you as a threat and a competition. It will feel like you're being tested most of the time. You will also notice how stories about you that don't exist in your life are now going to circulate around the office. That's totally normal. It depends too, really.

5. Your college major is nothing more than just a college major. That kind of stings, but you will soon realize the relevance of that as you land a job. According to Christopher Craft, an author at OPENRoutine, proven talents in other fields will speak for itself. It is true, for as human beings, we continue to progress and most of the time surprise ourselves that we actually unconsciously have limited ourselves to the superficial. We shall grow with the flow.

Maybe "Follow your heart" can really work for some of us, but there shall be the involvement of your logic, too. Never forget to balance the two.
