Ever wanted your own personal robot? The kind that can become your own personal butler?
Intel and Segway was very dramatic when they introduced the new robot. It came as an ordinary hoverboard but when Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said it can become a robot and attached arms to it, everyone got excited.
Segway was acquired by Ninebot last year and the partnership with Intel is a step towards robot modernization.
Zeus Kerravala wants one. The ZK analyst explains that its the first kind of robot anyone has ever encountered. The partnership between Intel and Segway built something remarkably different than anything on the market and may soon become socially acceptable.
Another analyst, Patrick Moorhead, found the robot to be quite interesting. His attention was peaked when the hoverboard transformed into a robot. He calls it an advancement in robotics, saying ".. No one has had an ecosystem like this..". He goes on to say that:
Developers can create add-ons, like arms that could specialize in things like carrying goods, folding laundry, making beds and cleaning the floors.
It's called the Segway Robot. The hoverboard-robot is built by Segway and has a built-in atom chip by Intel. The hoverboard transforms into a robot when its head suddenly peeking out of the board. The robot uses a camera by Intel, the RealSense ZR300. It can easily navigate around. The camera is connected to the internet, and like today's camera it's designed to recognize certain features. For this case, the camera can detect obstacles that the robot can avoid. And like a loyal friend, it can recognize its human owner.
Like most robots, it can recognize voice commands and responds when needed.
What's more good news is that the robot is an open platform so developers can place and create their own add-ons and applications, as reports indicated.
