Netflix Buys Its First Sundance Film A Week Before The Festival Starts

Netflix has kicked off the 2016 Sundance Film Festival early by acquiring the worldwide streaming rights for Tallulah a week before the event actually starts, as reported by Variety last tuesday.

Writer and director Sian Heder, the same brilliant mind behind Orange is the New Black, obviously has built a relationship with Netflix. Her first ever shirt film called "Mother", recognised and honored during Cannes Film Festival and Florida Film Festival, is where Tallulah was adapted from. The film stars Ellen Page and Allison Janney, reuniting to work once again after 'Juno'.
The story is about a young drifter, played by Page, who takes a baby from a negligent mother while Janney plays a woman who strongly believes that she os the grandmother of the child. This film is being billed as a dramatic comedy.

Tallulah was produced by Russell Levine, Heather Rae, Chris Columbus and Todd Traina and was backed by Route One Entertainment, Maiden Voyages Pictures and Ocean Blue Entertainment. Apart from Page and Janney, Zachary Quinto, Evan Jonigkeit, Uzi Aduba, Tammy Blanchard and a whole lot more fill in the cast list. The film is set in New York City.

According to the CEO of Route Entertainment, Russell Levine himself, Sian Heder is an exciting new voice in cinema and that he is proud to see the writer/director' work continue and progress. He thinks that Heder's work with Orange is the New Black is ground breaking, and she remains consistent as she passes on her talent to Tallulah. "Audiences worldwide are now going to be able to see Sian's growth as an artist through the support of Netflix," Levine added.

Netflix is currently on an aggressive approach when it comes to bagging the most on-demand shows and the originals such as House of Cards and Daredevil. As of the moment, the company continues to expand worldwide and is on an Oscar Hunt.
