Nichole Scherzinger Signs On For 'Dirty Dancing' Remake; Singer Now Transitioning To Acting?

Pussycat Dolls former front woman Nicole Scherzinger has secured a spot in ABC's upcoming remake for the iconic film "Dirty Dancing", as reported by The Guardian. According to TV Line, the 27-year-old recording artist and actress is set to join Abigail Breslin and Debra Messing for ABC's TV adaptation of "Dirty Dancing", playing the role of Penny, which was originally portrayed by Cynthia Rodes in the 1987 original film.

She is joining a cast that already enlists Breslin from "Little Miss Sunshine," Colt Prattes, and Messing from "Will and Grace" as Baby's mother. Just like how the film went; the three-hour TV movie will focus on the burgeoning romance between a wealthy vacationing girl named Baby (Breslin) and her working class dance instructor Johnny (Prattes). Scherzinger's role, Penny, is Johnny's dance partner and is also a part of the entertainment staff where Baby and her family are staying - the Catskills Resort.

Scherzinger has previously appeared on "How I Met Your Mother" as a guest star and as well as Wizards of Waverly Place. Her onstage experiences include "Rent" at the Hollywood Ball and she has also made an amazing appearance during the 2014 revival of Cats, where she portrayed the role of Grizabella.

She took to her Twitter account to post her feelings about landing her dream role of the sexy Penny. "So excited to join the cast of @ABCNetwork #DirtyDancing remake! Can't wait for you all to see it!", she wrote. The TV movie adaptation will be directed by Wayne Blair, who was the mind behind 2012's "The Sapphires". ABC has yet to announce a premiere date for the show.

The singer last appeared on ABC as one of the contestants on the 10th season of "Dancing with the Stars" back in 2010, a competition she won along with her partner Derek Hough.
