Cara Delevingne’s Career Lesson: How Modeling Made Her Very Miserable And Unhappy

She earned her keep as one of the most successful runway models in the industry. She strutted the catwalk for brands like Chanel and Burberry. Why did she choose to leave it all behind? According to Refinery, she wanted to focus on her acting career. Her rise to stardom was popularized because of her conformity to the beauty standards of the modeling industry. But Hello noted a much more deeper reason behind her departure.

Her reason for leaving her modeling career was that her perspective had changed which she explained in Motto. She concluded that she had her regrets. "I still have so much to learn, but I have realized that beating myself up, feeling guilty and regretting past mistakes will only hold me back."

It was her dream to become a model but soon lost sight of herself when she tried so hard to fit in the fashion world. "I worked hard to be accepted by the fashion community in ways beyond my physical appearance. In no time, though, I found myself surrendering to the industry's approval process. I felt like I needed validation from everyone," she explains.

Her need to be validated and loved is a normal human emotion but her decision to start focusing on herself became more important. She chose happiness over conformity but added that she doesn't resent her fashion career. Cara Delevingne ultimately decided to choose another path, using her modeling career as a stepping stone. "I'm spending more time doing the stuff I love. And I've been able to do better work because of it," she goes on.

Employees all around the world can learn from Cara Delevingne's career lesson: "After all, no matter how many people like you and your work, it doesn't matter if you don't like yourself."
