IKEA Increases Employee Salary To 7,300 Staff To Support National Living Wage

Good news for Ikea employees. Ikea UK is now set to increase the pay rates of 7,300 staffed employees as a result of the introduction of the living wage rate. This is also in response to the proportionate pay rises for team leaders. Both team leaders and staffed employees can benefit from this new implementation.

This news has been bubbling in the pipeline for quite some time. To make it official and to ensure that their current Ikea employees receive the right level of pay based on the right contract and schedule - the known retailer company is focusing on implementing the "Living Wage Foundation" wage rate of £8.25 per hour and £9.40 in London. According to Employee Benefits UK, this will be effective on Apr. 1, 2016 and will benefit 6,100 staff members and 1,200 team leaders. In addition, a new policy regarding rest days have been added. All customer-facing staff members are given one weekend off in four.

"Implementing the Living Wage Foundation's recommended rates of pay is not only the right thing to do by our co-workers and our values but it also makes good business sense," expresses Pernille Hagild, country HR manager at Ikea UK. The country manager appeared very supportive of this new initiative as Hagild believes that a team with good compensation and working conditions is in a better position to provide a great experience to our customers. Hagilde told Belfaste that she's proud to making a milestone for Ikea in order to transform basic co-worker conditions for the better.

While the working conditions, benefits and compensation packages are being continuously worked on by the company, Ikea has officially become a principal partner to the Living Wage Foundation (in an effort to remain constant and supportive) which Foundation director Katherine Chapman is quite proud of.
