However, according to an article from Fortune, companies believe in a flawed approach. The "If you build it, they will come" approach doesn't work.

Silicon Valley has the most advanced innovative and technological companies out there but that doesn't mean a thing if you're hiring the wrong people. Executives and managers should always be in hiring mode. Always be on the lookout for the next talented person instead of just merely trying to fill a spot. CEOs are not invested in this approach because they are not entirely visible in the hiring process.

So how much of a role should I play in the hiring process?

Everyone, especially the managers and executives should be actively involved in the process. They should be in charge and hold the responsibility of shaping the organization. If a bad hire is inside, it will cause a ripple effect and will upset the entire business. There needs to be alignment and that is why candidates need to be aligned with the company's objectives.

It also pays to figure out where the company stands right now. Forecasting ahead and hiring talent when you see one is crucial, especially in Silicon Valley.

Fortune continues to suggest that CEOs should not be afraid to build relationships even if they don't end up with a hire. The one you wanted may not work out now but he might come back.
