Headhunter Dishes Expert Advice When You Have A Job Interview At A Bar

These days, job interviews are either getting weirder or diverse. Most employers and recruiters conduct job interviews via video conference, through a formal appointment, or even during dinner.

Which is why Nick Corcodilos will teach you the do's and don'ts when it comes to getting interviewed for a job at a bar.

It's not a strange thing to hear, nowadays, when a manager said they've invited you to come for your next interview at a bar. They want to place you in a relaxing and informal environment. They most likely want to see how you act and how you would fit in. PBS has it that Nick Corcodilos listed a few things to help you get through it.

"Be careful," Corcodilos says. "There is some conventional wisdom about interviewing over a meal or over a drink. All of it assumes such a meeting is a clever ruse where the employer is watching your manners and your eating habits and possibly trying to get you "loosened up" so they can find out what you're really like."

Just remember that it is still a business meeting and follow these simple tips:

1. Be yourself

Don't mind the interview location. Do what you would usually do in an interview set-up. Trust your instincts and judgment.

2. Order what you want to eat

Watch the budget. Don't spend too much of their money and be polite.

3. Don't follow suit

You don't need to drink an alcoholic beverage if the manager orders one for the both of you. Trying to psych this out, so you can "do what they expect" will sink you.

4. Respect yourself and respect the employer

Contribute whatever information you think will help them see how you will do the job profitably for the company and how you will fit into their social environment. Being in a casual environment can expose both of you to conversations that are non-work.
