The feud between Google and Oracle is rising. Also, it has been noted that the rift between these two firms is not only affecting the business operations but places both companies and workers at risk as well.
In a post from Fortune, It all begins on Monday in San Francisco, where Google and Oracle will joust in court for a second time over little bits of code used to build the Android operating system.
The case is about intellectual property. It began six years ago when Oracle sued Google for using APIs tied to Java (more on this below) without permission. Google won at an initial trial in 2012 when a jury found the company didn't infringe Oracle's patents, and a judge concluded the APIs didn't qualify for copyright protection, as noted by the same post.
It stands to reason that money and property are the main elements at stake. At the same time, it is propelling Google and Oracle to skirmish over what they believe is rightfully and legally theirs.
If the scenario ends in favor towards Oracle, Google will lose more than what it anticipated for. Also, to assert copyright over APIs will also result into unprecedented outcomes and would even have an intense and negative effect on Google's software innovation.
The battle for dominance and copyright has marred Google's legacy and this is not the first time that Google has faced legal issues as well. In the past, Google was also in joust against the authors' guild and it involved copyright issues as well, reports Jobs & Hire.
It remains uncertain how Google VS Oracle's feud would end but one vital aspect is that the litigation is causing impact and influences the workplaces and the workers as well.
