Will ‘Wolverine 3’ Be Rated R? Movie’s Rating Not ‘Impacted’ By ‘Deadpool’ Movie’s Success

There are reports indicating that "Wolverine 3" will be rated R. Producer Simon Kinberg has confirmed the rating for the upcoming sequel.

Games Radar reported that Hugh Jackman has long wanted an R-rating for the "Wolverine" movies. Last week, producer and writer Simon Kinberg revealed that the "Wolverine 3" will be rated R.

There have been lots of speculations on the rating especially with the success of the "Deadpool" movie earlier this year. Kinberg clarified, though, that the "Wolverine 3" rated R decision was not influenced by the Merc with a Mouth's triumph at the box office.

"When there are films that want to be raunchier, want to be darker, want to be violent or R-rated, [Fox will] be open to it," he told Den of Geek. "And not every movie should be. I don't think that the main 'X-Men' movies should be R-rated; I don't think they're R-rated stories."

"But if we were to make an 'X-Force' movie, that probably should be R-rated. And what we're doing with the Wolverine movie... that wasn't impacted by 'Deadpool.'"

Kinberg went on to explain that the "Wolverine 3" rated R decision was made even before "Deadpool" was released. The anti-hero movie premiered in theaters last February.

"We'd made the decision for Wolverine to be R-rated before 'Deadpool' came out," he said. "But I think there's even more confidence about having made that decision now that you see that an R-rated 'Deadpool' movie can do better than any X-Men movie's ever done."

According to Movie Pilot, the post-credits scene of "X-Men: Apocalypse" has already laid the foundation for "Wolverine 3" and "Deadpool 2." It showed a mysterious man taking the last vial of Wolverine's blood.

He then placed it in his briefcase which was marked with Essex Corp. This led to speculations that Nathaniel Essex, a.k.a. Mister Sinister, will be the "Wolverine 3" villain.

Moreover, Essex is the one responsible for cloning Wolverine and Jean Grey. He also manipulated Scott Summers to have a child with Grey. The child is Cable, who has been confirmed to appear in the "Deadpool 2" movie.
