AJ Styles just started a rumor of a possible match with Shawn Michaels at the "Royal Rumble," and it could very well be a stroke of genius.
Pro wrestler AJ Styles just posted a promo photo on twitter of himself and Shawn Michaels facing off with the words "Royal Rumble." There have since been talks surrounding a possible match between the legendary Heart Break Kid and Styles which will be Michaels' last.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, AJ Styles spoke of his desire to face off with Shawn Michaels:
"I would love the opportunity to wrestle him. I'd love to learn from him, but who's to say if that's going to happen. Right now, it's all speculation and rumors that I'm finding out like everyone else is, but man, what a match that would be."
It seems like The Phenomenal One is really making a hard push towards a match with Shawn Michaels.
The whole WWE universe would probably agree that this would be an amazing match. Both men have made a name for themselves through acrobatic maneuvers and great wrestling instincts. Both are multiple champions and would definitely be a must see TV for all those who grew up watching pro wrestling. This is definitely going to be one of those throwback type matches if it indeed does happen.
Add the fact that the "Royal Rumble" will be held in San Antonio, Texas next year which is Shawn Michaels' hometown just makes this whole thing a little bit too perfect.
The only problem was that Michaels last match was against the legendary Undertaker and was hailed as one of the best matches in history. A good chunk of fans does not want to see HBK risk ruining such a fairy tale ending by tangling one more time with AJ Styles.
