Dark Energy Might Not Exist

A new Oxford study questions the existence of dark energy, reports say.

Dark energy composed three-fourths of the universe. The explained that previous researchers are still unsure on how dark energy operates.  

Space explained 1990s astrophysicists theorized that dark energy is speeding up the expansion of the universe. They calculated that 68 percent of the universe is composed of dark energy.

Previous researchers explained that it is important to know more about dark energy. They believe that since its discovery dark energy has been constant.

Now, new researchers from Oxfoed explained that previous dark energy data was flawed. They said that the universe expansion is constant and dark matter has nothing to do with it.

Their findings showed that there's no dark energy that speeds up the expansion process. They said that the 1990s theory and their study are based on Ia supernovae which is the traditional measurement of the universe, The Christian Science Monitor reported.

They explained that previous researchers don't have the knowledge of Ia supernovae that they have now. The researchers studied this again by increasing the initial sample size that the researchers had.

Researcher Subir Sarkar said that they analyzed the latest catalogue of 740 Type Ia supernovae. They found out that the previous study is just 3 sigma which is far short of the 5 sigma standard for a discovery to have fundamental significance.

He explained that other hypothesis about dark energy were also flawed. He said that all the tests are indirect and is not affected by dark energy.

The researchers explained that even though their study put dark matter into question. It doesn't fully nullify the study.

They said that they just want to show that the standard cosmological model is questionable. They hope that their study will motivate better cosmological studies and a better cosmological model.

They admit that a lot of work needs to be done to convince the physics community about this. They believe that their study will better the shaky cosmological model.
