NBA Trade Rumors: Blake Griffin Joins Kawhi Leonard & LaMarcus Aldridge? A New Era For The San Antonio Spurs Big 3

The Tim Duncan era is now over for the San Antonio Spurs following his retirement last season. Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili aren't getting any younger as well. It seems that the Spurs might be looking to rebuild its big 3 and NBA trade rumors have spread that Blake Griffin could complete the puzzle, teaming up with Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge.

The Spurs got to a good start this season beating the star-studded team Golden State Warriors in their opener. But in a statistics report by the NBA, they have now a 5-3 standing ranking 5th in the western conference as they dropped to 1-3 this week, following a defeat to the Jazz, Clippers and Rockets.

The reason might come from the team's frontcourt lineup which doesn't have enough depth. Now, according to Headlines & Global News, NBA trade rumors are circling around the Spurs as they plan on trading Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Clippers to get Blake Griffin.

Pau Gasol was acquired in the offseason to fill in for Duncan's spot and be the veteran big man that they need. But with two straight losses it seems that the Gasol's playing style does not complement that of LaMarcus Aldridge. Both of them are more of high-post offensive players who would rather shoot perimeter shots than taking it to the basket.

According to Spotrac, Griffin would be an unrestricted free agent in 2018 and has an option to terminate his contract early in the 2017-2018 season. If the Clippers don't trade him now, they might lose him for nothing, provided that he doesn't want to stay.

Griffin, being an athletic and defensive type of big man, would be a better complement for Aldridge. The Spurs would then have a formidable frontcourt lineup having Leonard, Aldridge and Griffin.

Such NBA trade rumors are always a buzz in the league as you see teams trying to bolster their rosters. Now with such rumors surrounding Griffin, it would definitely be a surprise seeing Griffin wearing a Spurs jersey.
