'Diablo 4' Release Date, Latest News & Update: Will Blizzard Create The Fourth Installment Of The Franchise?

In the latest update about "Diablo 4", fans were expecting that Blizzard will make an announcement about the 4th installment of the franchise during Blizzcon. However, they were disappointed when it didn't happen, which begs the question, will the company even come out with a "Diablo 4"?

According to The BitBag, a former Blizzard employee said in 2013 that the company was already "done" with the franchise.  Of course, it was easy to picture Blizzard creating the last of the Diablo franchise due to the negative feedback "Diablo 3" was getting from the fans.

But "Diablo 3" underwent a huge transformation in the years that follow, thanks in large part to the content updates like the season mode, greater rift challenge, and a comprehensive network of its loot system. The "Reaper of Souls" expansion has brought about the huge turnaround and Blizzard will also be coming out with a new expansion that was revealed during Blizzcon.

The new expansion will be called "Rise of the Necromancer" but a release date has yet to be announced. Though, it is slated to come out in 2017.

With the turnaround that Diable 3 achieved, is it time for Blizzard to think about creating "Diablo 4" or just continue on supporting and upgrading the Diablo 3? One website, though, says that the franchise needs to be updated with a "Diablo 4" release.

Racing Junky said that a "Diablo 4" game needs to be developed as there is still a lot story to tell for the franchise. The evils have escaped the black soul stone and there's a possibility that the Nephilim might become an antagonist as well.

Blizzard, though, better get the art direction of "Diablo 4" right this time, as "Diablo 3" wasn't as dark as the previous two installments, making it more cartoonish. A bright and colorful game may be a good approach for a fantasy game like World of Warcraft, but for the Diablo franchise, something dark has always been preferred.

A 3rd person viewing of "Diablo 4" also wouldn't be a problem, as long as it doesn't become a mobile game. What's important is the grind, the atmosphere, the items, and so on. It's also important that "Diablo 4" doesn't feel like just an expansion of "Diablo 3".

Though there is still no word yet from Blizzard that they will make the 4th installment of the game, it's fun to anticipate how "Diablo 4" will change the franchise. For now, fans can only wait and anticipate.
