Andrew Garfield On Life After Spider-Man, Playing Completely New Roles In Films By Mel Gibson and Martin Scorsese

Andrew Garfield is proceeding gracefully with his career as an actor, working with Mel Gibson in "Hacksaw Ridge" and then with Martin Scorcese in "Silence."  Both films have religious themes.

That is a long way from his past role as Spiderman in which he played the title role for two sequels. He was a superb Spiderman and fans loved him for doing the role of the superhero to the tune of more than $700 million each for the Amazing Spider Man serials.

Den of Geek reported that Andrew Garfield would have gotten the same role for a third sequel but it was rumored he denied the offer.  A younger actor will most likely grab the role if ever there is another "Amazing Spider" sequel.

Andrew Garfield seems at home with the last two roles that he has played in and at peace with himself as he develops himself as a great actor. His role in Mel Gibson's "Hacksaw Ridge" is about a Seventh Day Adventist follower who finds himself a combat soldier-medic in World War II.

The soldier played by Andrew Garfield goes into much trouble for refusing to carry a gun but becomes a hero in the end by saving the lives of his fellow soldiers. There is a bit of superhero theme on this movie but this time, it is the real life story of Desmond Doss who was awarded the U.S. Medal of Honor for his feat.

On the other hand, the story of Martin Scorcese's film "Silence" is about two Jesuit priests in 17th century Japan. Both are missionaries who are looking for their Jesuit adviser (played by by Liam Neeson). Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver play the roles of the two young priests.

Garfield spoke with John Powers of Vogue where he spoke about the influences Gibson and Scorcese had on his attitudes towards his acting career. It looks like both these great filmmakers are impressed with his acting performance.
