It is very simple and easy to catch Pikachu at the very start of the game. If it is your first time to play this game, there are various options that are available. Another good option to consider is by evolving your duplicate Pokemon. It will only cost a few candy to evolve into Rattata, Pidgey, and Weedle, which will give you 500XP in return. Transferring them into Professor Willow will help you earn another bonus candy.
Maximize your throw bonus. You might have noticed and wondering what are those green, yellow or orange circles while trying to capture a Pokemon. These rings are there as a guide for you to get the perfect timing in throwing the Pokeball and obtain throw bonuses. Hitting the center of the circle will give you more bonuses. Mastering the art of hitting the center is definitely an easy way to earn some XP.
Explore various areas and play at night. You need to be more adventurous if you want to succeed in catching them. It is a good idea to venture around the unexplored area; who knows if you are lucky enough and catch a rare Pokemon hiding there waiting for you.
