British Actor Peter Vaughan Who Played Maester Aemon Targaryen On 'Game Of Thrones' Dies Aged 93

BBC recently reported that British actor Peter Vaughan died on Tuesday morning. In its report, Vaughan's agent Sally Long-Innes confirmed that the actor "passed away at approximately 10:30 this [on Tuesday] morning. He died peacefully with his family around him."

Peter Vaughan is popular in many films and television series for his brilliant acting. He is well-known for portraying characters of a police officer, secret agent, and the likes. One of his last appearances in a television series was on HBO's hit "Game of Thrones".

Vaughan's 7-decade in acting industry

Vaughan made his debut in the acting industry in 1959 in a small role as a police officer in the film The 39 Steps. He continued to play small roles until 1964 when he starred in the film Smokescreen and portrayed the role of an insurance investigator. From then, Vaughan continued playing big roles. Some of his popular films are The Naked Runner and The French Lieutenant's Woman.

However, his biggest role in the movie industry was when he played the role of Anthony Hopkin's father in the 1993 film The Remains of the Day.

Vaughan in television series

Peter Vaughan is not only popular in his movie roles. He also starred in many television series such as Randall and Hopkirk, A Ghost Story for Christmas, Fox, and Citizen Smith. However, his biggest profile in television is Harry Grout in the Porridge. And at the age of 86, Vaughan continued as a popular actor and gained much younger fans during his portrayal of Maester Aemon Targaryen in the HBO hit series "Game of Thrones".

Many of Vaughan's colleague in the industry was surprised and saddened by his death. One of them is the 16-year-old actor Brenock O'Connor who played Olly in the "Game of Thrones". Brenock took to Twitter his feeling about Vaughan's death with whom he shared a lot of moments in the Castle Black.
