New ‘Barbie’ Live-Action Movie News & Update: Amy Schumer Lands Role Of Living Doll; Fights Back At Internet Trolls

The internet trolls have attacked in full force. Ever since news broke that Amy Schumer will be playing the titular role of "Barbie" in its upcoming live-action film, the comedienne has received a lot of body-shaming backlash.

GlobalNews got wind of a series of reactions from the public, which unfortunately, are not favorable. The comments mostly revolve around Schumer's plus-sized figure and how it does not fit the iconic doll's slim body measurements.

One commenter remarked that Schumer's casting will be for "a FAT Barbie with a gut and two chins and a pie fetish." Another referred to her as "Diabetes Barbie," possibly referring to an incident in Sept. 2015 when the actress admitted to gobbling down Jake Gyllenhaal's birthday cake while intoxicated.

The 35-year-old comedienne, however, is not taking this lying down. In an Instagram post, she slams her detractors by showing how unaffected she was of their bashing: "Is it fat shaming if you know you're not fat and have zero shame in your game? I don't think so."

Schumer claims she's very honored to be considered to play an "important and evolving icon." Her strong self-esteem is very evident as she says how proud she is of how she lives her life - by saying what she means, fighting for what she believes, and having a blast with the people she loves. In a move seen to slay her fat-shaming critics, Schumer offered her deepest sympathy to the internet trolls, as their comments have made it very clear that she's the perfect choice to play Barbie.

The comedy star has been very active about her advocacy of loving one's self, regardless of body figures or sizes. Earlier in July, she posted a mocking response to Fergie's controversial "M.I.L.F.$" video that featured the singer, Kim Kardashian, Chrissy Teigen, and Alessandra Ambrosio in skimpy clothing, as reported by Jobs & Hire.

The upcoming Barbie movie will supposedly take a more contemporary spin on the world's perceptions of what an ideal beauty looks like. Not much production details have been released, but Schumer was reportedly expected to co-write the script with her sister, Kim Caramele.
