Instagram Evolution: Copying Ideas from Facebook and Snapchat?

In today's technology, a lot of social media platforms are starting to evolve. From connecting to your friend and family on the other side of the world, making live video in your feeds, and so on. However, as these platforms started to grow, there are instances that they become almost similar. For example Instagram, is said to be copying other ideas of Facebook and Snapchat.

According to Mashable, Instagram announced last Tuesday that users are now allowed to "like" the comments on the photos. Reportedly, after this announcement, a lot of people says that Instagram might be "copying" Facebook. However, Kevin Systrom (CEO of Instagram) says that this is just to encourage positivities on the said platform.

Before, Instagram is known because of its capturing moments, the filters to enhance the photos, and people can share a certain moment and can post it instantly. The two platforms, Facebook and Instagram, was different before. But then, this 2016, Instagram changed significantly.

Example of these changes are:

June 2016

The posts are not arranged based on time (chronologically), they are already based on "what post you care." Reportedly, many users badly react because of this change.

August 2016

Instagram Stories became an additional feature of the application. For Snapchat users, this is not new anymore; posting photo in your storyboard and can only be seen in a span of 24 hours. However, and still, some people reportedly reacts on this and says that; they hate it.

November 2016

Instagram Direct also became like Snapchat. When users screenshot those messages from the photo in the story board, automatically, the user within the conversation will be notified.

December 2016

The evolution of the comments on Instagram. Just like in Facebook, if people agrees with the comment they can simply tap the "like" button. Instagram has also the same kind of feature that was released this month.

In addition to this report, Instagram is making a step to be more like Facebook. This is because to encourage more people to use the social media platform. Though, for the past six years, the application already have 500 million users. However, it is still lesser than the engaged users from Facebook.

Meanwhile, after Instagram Story was released, there are reportedly 100 million people uses the feature everyday. Therefore, this is a boost on Instagram, and will likely lead to success. But developing the application to be more like Facebook is a little bit riskier, it needs a lot of careful step.
