‘Aquaman’ News & Update: Patrick Wilson Cast As Evil Villain ‘Orm’ The ‘Ocean Master’ In Upcoming DC Movie

Director James Wan has revealed who will play the big baddie opposite Jason Momoa's "Aquaman" -- theater veteran and actor Patrick Wilson. Both confirmed the news via Twitter on Dec. 12.

Tweeting from his account "@creepypuppet", Wan wrote, "In casting news that no one saw coming from 20,000 nautical miles away, I ordain @patrickwilson73 the Ocean Master. #KingOrm #Aquaman". The actor then replied, "Teehee. Here we go. @creepypuppet" along with a report from Deadline.com confirming the news.

Wilson's acting credentials are stellar: he's a two-time Tony Award nominee for "The Full Monty" and "Oklahoma", earned an Oscar nod for "Fargo", and gained both Oscar and Emmy nominations for his role in the HBO miniseries "Angels in America." Apart from that, he has previous experience working with Wan in the director's horror projects: "Insidious", "Insidious: Chapter 2", "The Conjuring" and "The Conjuring 2."

In "Aquaman," Wilson's character as Orm Marius will see him being the main menace in the oceans as he tried to bring down his half-brother, Arthur Curry (AKA "Aquaman"), for the throne. No plot details have been revealed yet, but Wan had stated in an earlier interview that the film is a "swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story."

The film is already in its pre-production stage and is all set to begin shooting in Queensland, Australia in 2017. Aside from Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson, model and actress Amber Heard was also confirmed to join the cast as "Mera", the queen of the sea and Aquaman's love interest. Wan further disclosed that the love story between the two will start off as a "love-hate relationship" that will eventually blossom into something more as "they work closer and closer."

The "Aquaman" film will officially hit cinemas on Oct. 5, 2018, as reported by Jobs & Hire. It will be preceded by similar blockbusters from the DC Extended Universe: "Wonder Woman" on Jun. 2, 2017, "Justice League" on Nov. 17, 2017, and "The Flash" on Mar. 16, 2018.
