Minnesota ‘Gophers’ Football Players Suspension Over Rape Case Latest Update; Other Members Decided To Boycott All Games And Football Activities

Ten members of the Minnesota Football Players were suspended after an investigation is conducted in a sexual assault case. On December 15, 2016, the football team announced that they will boycott future games and any football future activities.

Although the court did not bring any formal charges in any of the accused teammates the university officials have suspended ten players. Other members who are not accused were really disappointed with the decision of the university thus as a support they will boycott any future games and activities concerning them. The decision to boycott is to show their solidarity as a team even outside the football court.

Furthermore according to NYMag, one of the fathers of suspended players told that the decision to suspend was by the university alone for they conducted their own investigation most particularly the university's firm which is the Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action who thoroughly investigated the alleged sexual assault of September 3, 2016.

The chronological series of events before the suspension of the other members was also released in the University's school newspaper. After the assault controversies, Tracy Claeys, the football coach suspended other four members for not following the team rules and regulations. The four players were then investigated by the Police Department and resulted to no charges and suspensions were lifted. Weeks after, restraining orders from an alleged rape victim comes out against the other six members.

On November 2, 2016, the five restraining orders were dropped reaching to an order agreement for the players to stay 20 feet away from the alleged victim. Despite the controversy the football team still played on November 5, 2016, until the suspension of the ten members was finally filed on December 13, 2016.

According to Startribune, the team will even boycott the December 27 Holiday Bowl vs. Washington State.
