It must have been quite a morning for homeowners Pat and Stephen Downey, when they woke up to find a horse on their roof.
The horse, who is named Must Win, is the Downey's colt , and is one of their racehorses, was discovered to have found his way atop the roof last Tuesday, leaving the Downeys baffled as to how the four-legged creature got up there in the first place. Pat and Stephen Downey are a couple who live in Hampton, New Brunswick, and raise racehorses on a farm with Stephen's brother Archie, who alerted them to the strange sight. The couple rushed to help the stranded colt but could not help taking a snaphot of its humorous situation first.
"I think he was just bored. He's here alone and he's usually not alone," Stephen Downey told media. "He's like a two or three-year-old kid and he was just looking for some excitement and he got into trouble like a regular kid would do."
The Downeys usually have horses on the property, but they are presently undergoing training elsewhere, leaving the one-year-old Must WIn all alone and with a little too much time on his hands--or hooves.
How Must WIn got up on the rook in the first place is a mystery, however Pat Downey theorizes that he could have jumped a three-foot knoll and scrambled his way to the top.
The Downeys express their relief that the horse did not fall through the roof: "You know, his hooves actually went through the roof at one point; there were holes on it. How he did not fall through completely is just a miracle." Had he fallen, it would have been a 12-foot drop, and Must Win would have not recovered.
Must Win was led off the roof to the lowest point and prompted to make a small jump three feet down. He has been checked for signs of injury, but appears to have gotten off the roof unscathed and probably a little bit embarassed.
The Downeys have been raising horses for 15 years and say that this is the first time this has happened. They have put up a fence around the roof in order to prevent other bored horses from seeking entertainment on higher ground.
