Earthquake Hits Pakistan and Killed 45. Death Toll Expected to Rise As Victims Are still Trapped - Reuters

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit 145 M SE of Dalbandin, Pakistan. This remote and quake-prone area is near the Baluchistan province, just across Iran's border, according to US Geological Survey.

(Reuters) On Tuesday, local deputy commissioner and spokesman of Pakistan's Frontier Corps of Awaran, Abdul Rasheed Gogazai, confirmed about 45 people died when the powerful quake hit the area. Buildings and strong tremors were felt reaching New Delhi's capital, stretching to as far across hundred miles east to Karachi Port. It is reported that a new island rose from the sea near the southern coastline of the Arabian Sea 600 yards off Pakistan Gwadar. The rising of the seabed has become a rare phenomenon.

Government accounted that mud houses were destroyed within the mountain ranges near the quake's epicenter due to a series of aftershocks. "At least 30% of houses in the impoverished Awaran district had caved in - ", said deputy speaker Abdul Qadoos of the Baluchistan assembly on a Reuters report.

Officials of Quetta capital cannot give an estimate of the damages yet since the areas are remote and is currently hard to assess. 200 army troops have been deployed with choppers to supply relief goods and provide rescue assistance.
