An Obama White House Workplace Comedy Is Heading To The Big Screen

Fans who miss former President Barack Obama and his team are about to get a treat. It was reported that a brand new comedy is heading to the big screen and will center on the White House as a workplace and on the relationships between the staffers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Pictures has partnered with Anonymous Content to create a film based on the book proposal “From The Corner of the Oval” by Beck-Dorey Stein. The author was a White House stenographer from 2014 to 2016.

It appears that many are eager to learn more about what’s going on at the White House as the movie option comes after Random House division Spiegel & Grau picked up Dorey-Stein’s book proposal in a seven-figure two-book deal. The book is said to be released in 2018.

The book follows a young woman living in Washington D.C. who is at a low point in her career. Her life undergoes a massive change as she goes from serving cocktails to being hired as a stenographer in the White House during the Obama administration. As she navigates this brand new world, she finds herself in a series of misadventures in life and love.

The upcoming film adaptation of Dorey-Stein’s novel follows last year’s “Southside With You,” which details a young Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson’s first date in 1989, and “Barry,” which is all about Obama’s arrival at Columbia University for his junior year.

As people get nostalgic about the past administration, it is expected that more films—and possibly even TV shows—inspired by the Obama White House could be in the cards. As Barack and Michelle Obama return to being civilians, the couple has dipped their feet in the entertainment world as they have just signed a $60 million book deal with Random Penguin House.

In a statement to Mashable, the publishing house’s CEO, Markus Dohle, said, “We are very much looking forward to working with President and Mrs. Obama to make each of their books global publishing events of unprecedented scope and significance.”
