Tropical Storm Sonia Dissipates As Hits Western Mexico

Tropical Storm Sonia has been downgraded to a tropical depression as it hit land in Mexico early Monday, U.S. National Hurricane Center informed.

Sonia landed on the coast of Sinaloa, near El Dorado, where it dissipated after reaching a maximum winds of 35 mph.

According to Mexican authorities, there was a chance of continued rains over swaths of western Mexico before Sonia dissipated.

Sonia caused some minor flooding in cities such as Mazatlan and Culiacan forcing the evacuation of around 1,000 people though, Mexican Government informed.

"There are no confirmed reports of injuries or casualties, but one fisherman was reported missing at sea," Gabriel Olivera, State Civil Defense Official for Sinaloa, said.

U.S. National Hurrican Center informed Sonia's moisture will continue on into Texas.
