Tessanne Chin Is the First Jamaican Winner of The Voice

Tessanne Chin is the first ever Jamaican winner of NBC's hit talent show The Voice. Chin who is from team Adam Levine outshone Will Champlin (from the same team) and Team Cristina's Jacquie Lee in the fifth season of The Voice through her outstanding performance of Whitney Houston's classic "I Have Nothing."

It can be noted that her coach, Adam Levine, predicted way back in the blind auditions that Tessanne Chin has got what it takes to land the top spot in the competition. "I don't have thoughts right now," coach Adam Levine said after the announcement of winners. "Everybody know this is sacred ground. Everybody stay away from Whitney Houston because it is so hard... It is unlike anything I've ever heard... I have no doubt in my mind that you are the winner of this show."

It was also Levine who suggested to Chin that for her final song she should sing Whitney Houston's hit song.

In an interview, Chin said, "Of course I can't sing like Whitney Houston, but I consider this as a tribute to her."

Tessanne had made a mark in The Voice Season 5 for being the "powerhouse," as what the coaches/judges of the talent show refer to her. Based on the polls conducted by several media outlets, it was Chin who was the crowd-favorite among the viewers.

The official results for The Voice season 5 was announced during the two-hour finale episode, where various hitmakers also performed. Some of the guest stars include Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Ne-Yo, and many more.

Tessane won a trophy, the title for this season, a recording contract, and $100,000 cash prize.

After the competition, Chin thanked her fans via Twitter saying, "Thank you so much for all the love and support on this journey everyone!!! Please vote :) and buy... https://t.co/ze43y0vazK"
