Phil Robertson's comments on homosexuality could spell the end of his career and Duck Dynasty as well. Reactions from various groups continue to emerge from various sources, thus sparking the reality TV star's suspension from the show.
Following intense reactions from LGBT and gay rights activist groups, the show's creator A&E confirmed that Robertson has been placed on "indefinite hiatus" after the comments he had made in a recent GQ magazine interview.
Phil Robertson's apology would not be accept anymore, a source close to the matter said earlier today, explaining that A&E is through with him after that stunt.
But will reality hit "Duck Dynasty" survive without the presence of mainstay Robertson who plays a central role in presiding over the family and leading dinner time prayers?
"All shows run their course. But this still has at least another season or two in it," the source said concerning the incident. "Granted, the overall feeling of uninhibited love that this country has had for the show and brand will likely start to turn a bit."
The source also disclosed that since "Duck Dynasty" has recently amassed a huge following and incredible ratings, losing one cast member would not hinder producers from continuing the show. There was also a possibility for the show to be fashioned into a "spin-off."
However the creative team for "Duck Dynasty" still have a lot of troubleshooting to do as Phil Robertson ultimately holds the role of the head of the family and the established source of "words of wisdom" taught to the grandkids. The reality show star is also the founded of Duck Commander, a multi-million dollar business that "Duck Dynasty" features which makes his absence even more striking and significant.
A number of people believe that these problems -- coupled with Phil Robertson's remarks -- are unconquerable.
Gene Grabowski, a crisis communications expert, expressed his doubts in "Duck Dynasty" surviving the aftermath of Robertson's offensive comments. The Levick Strategic Communications VP further explained that A&E would have a difficult time if they choose to continue to air the program since LGBT groups will most likely oppose this.
