Oprah Winfrey Found Dead: Celebrity Death Hoax of Media Queen Circulates Online Due to Rogue App

Oprah Winfrey is dead. That's what another viral video on Facebook is claiming. However, the media queen is still alive and kicking and is even enjoying the holiday season with some close friends.

According to Hoax-Slayer, an alleged exclusive video of Oprah Winfrey saying her final goodbyes prior to committing suicide inside her home has gone viral for many weeks now. The video is part of a trending message on Facebook that claims Winfrey had now departed from the living world.

However, it was later on found out that it was just another celebrity death hoax. The link actually redirects one to a rogue app that automatically sends out the same spam message to all of the user's friends once it is installed. Upon clicking the link, a notification will automatically appear, claiming that the user must first allow the download of a "plugin" to watch the video. Once the download begins, the user will be asked to participate in several online surveys prior to gaining official access to the video. But this is not the case.

Multiple sources reported that the message is disguised as an article from Fox News. Hence, many people were compelled to believe what it has to say. Unfortunately, the main goal of the rogue app is to access private information as well as post some tid-bits and false info on the user's behalf. What's kind of disconcerting however is the fact that although the news is a complete scam, it managed to get a lot of clicks and likes and even shares. This then led experts to conclude that most people who stumbled upon the news didn't actually click the link but quickly liked or shared it right away.

Other celebrities who became victims to this string of death hoaxes include: Celine Dion, Jackie Chan, Will Smith, and Miley Cyrus.
