Kill Switch A Standard For Mobile Devices Like Smartphones And Tablets In The United States By 2015

Kill Switch will soon be a standard for all Mobile devices in the United States by the year 2015. The new system will be critical for remotely deactivating and formatting all data in a smartphone, specifically for devices that are stolen.

Major mobile phone manufacturers around the globe, which includes the five largest smartphone makers in the United States which includes, Samsung, Apple, Google, and Microsoft made a pledge to support the current program and voluntarily signed an agreement for a Kill Switch for their devices.

According to the CTIA, The Wireless Association, the program will fully commence on July 2015 in the United States. This means that all smartphones manufactured for sale by the targeted schedule will be utilizing the Kill Switch.

The major purpose of the Kill Switch is to discourage theft and robbery of mobile devices, by implying a system that will disable the phone useless and will let the owners secure their private information. The CTIA president, Steve Largent said on a statement that, " We appreciate the commitment made by these companies to protect the wireless users in the event their smartphones are lost or stolen." The move is an advantage for the law enforcement officials who are concerned with the increasing cases of smartphone theft.

Other smartphone makers also signed up for the program, they are, HTC, Motorola, Nokia, with mobile network carriers like AT&Tm Sprint, T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular who also joined the group.

The Kill Switch feature will let users access their smartphone's full capability with added security attributes that will let the user erase contacts, emails, photos, videos, personal information, and lock the device with a password so that it can't be authorize by other people. If stolen, the device will not be able to be activated without permission from the owner, and will be available for free on mobile devices. There is only one detail to consider, data that are stored on the smartphone can only be retrieved once it is recovered by the owner.
